More About APO MARINO AA 387
Our Story
In November 2018, creation of social media groups were popular especially in Facebook. One of these groups is composed of brothers and sisters from Visayas. They created a group chat to catch up and chat with each other. In their conversations, they discovered that there were many seamen among them, some of them were still onboard and some stayed in Manila to arrange their documents and some were attending trainings and others were on vacation in their provinces. Bro. JOHN EUDES B. VALLACER Eta Beta '03, Bro DIOSDIDIT A. BARADILLO Jr. Zeta Beta '96 both onboard during that time, and Bro RITCHIE M. CUIZON Kappa Sigma '09 are part of that group and talk to each other to create a separate group chat for them to form a circle of Alpha Phi Omega for all seafaring professions. Since then, Bro. CHIAKI BON O. LUA Eta Pi '05, also a member of the said group chat, and other members started inviting active APO seamen to join the group chat. Bro. JOEL B. NEBRAN, Delta Rho '02 suggested to form an Alpha Phi Omega Alumni Association whose professions are seafaring. His idea is to organize a professional base AA for all Alpha Phi Omega seaman similar to other existing professional based alumni associations like APO LAWMEN, APO DAP, etc. On January 10, 2019, Bro Joel met with Bro Chiaki to have a short talk and to discuss the plan. After that meeting, they informed the other members and planned a meeting to discuss and organize the Alumni Association. On January 11, 2019, the first meeting was held at Slyvias Grill, San Andres, Malate, Manila. The brothers present were: JOEL B. NEBRAN 0417-2202-34834 ACE VEGIL B. BASEA 0406-2008-49434 CHIAKI BON O. LUA 0716-2005-43860 GENELITO L. ARENA 0417-2000-34784 CRISTITUTO D. TUALLA 0716-2004-36808 GERESH PEARL I. PERONO 0802-1999-25167 EFREN P. MAKILANG II 1018-2005-41449 LIMON EMMANUEL JR. 0716-2004-40102 JEO SARMIENTO 0417-2008-46238 On the same day, the name of the proposed alumni association was discussed, it was agreed thereon, and APO Marino Alumni Association officially started and formed. Election of officers was also held that day, and the one voted as its first president is Bro Joel B. Nebran. Subsequently, the first meeting followed and plans on the next steps to be taken for the organization of the alumni association was thoroughly discussed. The Letter of Petition signed by APO Marino President Bro Joel B. Nebran was sent to National Administration Office on January 31, 2019 and it was received by NED Sis Evelyn C. Cañete-Evangelio. Since then the members have had regular meetings every fourth Saturday of the month at Kantina Sabel Restaurant, J.Bocobo St.Ernita, Manila and established two-year development plan of activities and services. Everyone agreed to welcome all APO professionals in the maritime industries like those who work in the office of manning related to maritime industries because one of the reasons here is that there must be a member left in Manila where AA is addressed. Here, it was decided to invite active professionals working in manning agencies and the Maritime Industry Authority who have a great advantage in providing assistance to APO Marino members. The second reason is that someone needs to handle funds based in Manila and do not board the ship for a quick transaction in case there is a service to be done.
